This is #day4.
Every day (Monday – Friday) over the summer, I am writing a short post about our day. The posts highlight some of our fun times, boring times, and imperfect times.

#day4

06:03 “Mummy can I go downstairs?”

The day had begun.

. . . . . My
. . . . . . . . mind and body
. . ached
. . . . . . . . . . for
. . . . . . sleep.

What needed to happen today?

• Deadlines
• Invoices
• The builders arriving
• Get outside –
• Maybe the city?
• Or the park?

The weather looks typically British and unpredictable.

Mummy works while daddy and boy play Pac-Man.

It’s 09:00.
Daddy heads to the bank.
Boy snuggles.

Mummy keeps working.
Daddy returns.
Still no builders.

The sun shines.
A message is sent.
The builders will come tomorrow.

It’s lunchtime. The primary deadline is met.

We head to a pub for lunch. There is an outdoor play park.

Boy plays and climbs and jumps and runs.

Daddy gets some good news.
Time for a celebratory beer.

The clouds thicken and darken.

The boy tires and flops to the ground.
He cannot face walking home.
“Taxi!”

We arrive home and the rain falls – heavily.

Snuggle. Dinner. Play. Bed. Invoices.

As always, I wasn’t a perfect mummy.
Boy was perfect – in my eyes.
And my husband… well, he’s human too.

We went to bed, early. Tired.

Tomorrow, the builders will come (we hope). I will put my work away and hang out with my boy.

How do you balance work and play (and the need for sleep)?
